Always lift furniture when moving it. Never drag, push, or tilt pieces onto their ends, as this can weaken joints and cause permanent damage.

Regularly tighten all screws and hardware on your outdoor furniture to maintain structural integrity.

Protect surfaces from heat and scratches by using placemats, coasters, and table runners. Avoid placing hot items directly on furniture.

Clean spills promptly to prevent staining or surface damage.

Store cushions indoors when not in use to prolong their life and maintain appearance.

Wood is a natural product that expands and contracts with weather changes, which can cause micro-fractures called checking—this is natural and not a fault.

·        Avoid silicone-based cleaners as they cause buildup, discoloration, and splitting.

·        Always lift furniture; never drag, push, or tilt onto an end to avoid damage.

·        Tighten screws periodically to maintain stability.

·        Use placemats, coasters, and table runners to protect against heat and scratches.

·        Clean up spills immediately.

·        Store cushions indoors when not in use.

We recommend using Guardsman Outdoor Wood Protector in conjunction with specific timber maintenance to repel stains and protect against mildew. If mildew develops the timber will turn black, this forms on the surface and isn’t detrimental to the timber itself. This can be scrubbed using a mild detergent and warm water mix. For more stubborn mould, all major hardware stores sell a full range of mould removal products.

Due to the severity of our weather, we recommend that in conjunction with regular maintenance that all outdoor furniture be protected from the elements when not in use for long periods of time. We suggest using a protective cover or storing pieces undercover to help prolong the life and look of your furniture.

During the wet seasons ensure that water isn’t sitting on top of your furniture and that the legs aren’t sitting in puddles, this can cause timber deterioration.

Some of our products can withstand being out indirect weather while others are better suited for undercover use. Please check with our friendly team if you are unsure of the best location for your new purchase.

BAS and Teak timbers are suitable for outdoor use but require regular maintenance when exposed to direct weather to prolong their lifespan.

To Clean:

Scrub with warm soapy water using a soft-bristle brush. Hose down with water and allow to dry naturally.

 Maintenance:

Reapply hardwood sealer or oil at least every six months, though frequency depends on local climate and exposure. Before re-oiling, check for residue build-up; if present, lightly sand the surface. Apply oil and allow it to soak for several hours, preferably in the shade. Wipe off any excess oil with a clean cloth.

When resealing:

·        Remove stubborn stains by sanding gently with fine-grade sandpaper, following the wood grain.

·        Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose.

·        Pat dry with a towel, then let the sun dry remaining moisture.

·        Apply teak/hardwood sealer according to product instructions.

Additional Info:

BAS and Teak will naturally weather a silver-grey patina if left unsealed. This patina doesn’t affect durability in covered or unexposed areas. 

Exposed pieces require regular maintenance to prevent timber degradation.

The grey patina can be removed by sanding and applying a hardwood sealer or oil.

Teak is an extremely durable hardwood; it is important to recognise our Reclaimed range is used in its raw form and maintenance will be required.

To Clean:

Simply scrub it with warm soapy water and a soft bristled brush, hose it down with water, and leave it to dry naturally.

Exposed Locations:

We advise that Reclaimed Teak pieces be sealed upon arrival and regularly maintained to increase longevity. We recommend an initial application and regular maintenance at least every six months with a teak oil or teak sealer to maintain your investment.

Covered Outdoor Areas:

Used in an undercover area, Reclaimed Teak that has not been sealed will weather naturally to a silver-grey patina. This does not affect its durability or longevity if left undercover. This grey patina can be removed by sanding the furniture and applying a teak sealer or oil.

To Remove Stubborn Stains:

Sand with a fine grade sandpaper, making sure to work with the direction of the grain. Be careful not to use much force. Afterwards, use a garden hose to rinse off the teak furniture, pat the wood dry with a towel and let the sun dry up any remaining moisture. You may then seal it with a teak oil/sealer.

To Clean:

Wipe down with a soft cloth slightly moistened with warm soapy water. Avoid using rough surfaces or stiff bristles during cleaning. Do NOT use detergents or cleaners containing ammonia, as these will damage the timber.

Maintenance Tip:

If a chalky film appears on your Acacia furniture, this indicates the protective layer has worn away and needs refreshing. It is essential to perform the necessary maintenance to protect the timber from the elements and prevent deterioration.

If placing these items in an exposed areas it is recommended that a PU coating is applied to enhance the overall level of protection as soon as possible. This will assist when exposured to the elements, this maintenance will also need to be continued on a regularly basis. Exterior PU finishes are applied with a natural bristle brush in multiple coats. Sanding the hardened varnish lightly between each coat.

Exterior Polyurethane finishes require moderate maintenance, typically every six months, though this can vary depending on climate, outdoor conditions, and exposure to direct weather.

Exterior Polyurethane products are available at major hardware stores. Always follow the manufacturer’s application instructions. 

Note: Interior PU finishes are not suitable for outdoor use. 

Apply exterior PU with a natural bristle brush in multiple coats, sanding lightly between coats to smooth the hardened varnish.

Don’t delay maintenance; otherwise, cracks may develop in the finish, allowing moisture to penetrate and potentially degrade the wood. 

For Acacia pieces with a PU coating, continue using Polyurethane for maintenance.

If switching to an oil sealer, all existing Polyurethane must be sanded off completely before applying oil to ensure penetration and a consistent finish.

For factory-stained Acacia pieces, regular maintenance with an exterior timber stain is recommended to prolong the furniture’s life. Typically, stains should be reapplied twice a year or as needed, depending on climate and outdoor exposure.

Preparation:

Lightly sand the timber with fine-grade sandpaper, working with the grain and using gentle pressure.

Rinse the furniture thoroughly with a garden hose to remove dust.

Pat dry with a towel and allow the sun to dry any remaining moisture.

 Application:

Apply the exterior timber stain following the product’s instructions.

Stains are available at most major hardware stores.

Additional Tip:

Water-based stains allow for an optional final coating of oil for enhanced protection.

Exterior oil finishes require moderate maintenance— generally every six months, but frequency may vary based on climate, outdoor conditions, and exposure to direct weather.

Apply exterior oil with a clean cloth in multiple coats, sanding lightly between coats for best results.

Ensure the oil is applied to the entire surface, including crevices.

After applying, wipe off any excess oil using a clean rag.

Allow the oil to soak into the furniture for several hours, preferably keeping the furniture in the shade during this time.

Exterior oils are widely available from major hardware stores; always follow the manufacturer’s application instructions.

To Clean:

Wipe down all metal surfaces with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust. Use a clean, dry cloth for dust removal.

Protection & Maintenance:

We strongly recommend applying a rust inhibitor (such as Guardsman Weather Defence Metal Protector) to all metal surfaces, especially on joints, welds, bolts, and any exposed or easily scratched areas.

Although powder coating and heat transfer coatings provide protection against rust and corrosion, damage to the coating can still occur, particularly around high-wear areas.

Maintenance Disclaimer:

Regular maintenance every six months with a rust preventative or inhibitor is strongly advised to prolong the life of your furniture and protect vulnerable spots. Powder coating and heat transfer coatings reduce the risk of rust but do not guarantee complete protection if the surface coating is compromised.

To Clean:

Wipe down metal surfaces with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust. For dust removal, use a clean, dry cloth. 

Protection & Maintenance:

It is essential to apply a rust inhibitor (e.g., Guardsman Weather Defence Metal Protector) regularly to all metal surfaces not powder coated, heat transfer coated, or galvanised.

Pay special attention to joins, welds, and any exposed metal areas; these should be sprayed with rust inhibitor as soon as possible and maintained consistently.

Regular application of rust inhibitor will significantly extend the longevity of your metal furniture by preventing rust development.

To Clean:

Use a mild soap and water solution. Avoid abrasive materials, bleach, or ammonia-based cleaners. Wipe up spills immediately to prevent staining or moisture damage.

 Surface Protection:

Do not place hot or wet items directly on the surface, as they may cause permanent marks.

Avoid placing terracotta pots, adhesives, or oily substances directly on concrete surfaces.

Use tablecloths, runners, and coasters to help prevent scratches and damage from heat or moisture.

Never use the tabletop as a cutting surface or for tasks that could damage the finish.

Maintenance Tips:

Hairline cracks are a natural characteristic of concrete. To treat, apply a thick layer of wax and rub it in thoroughly to prevent moisture penetration. For pieces with a factory-applied wax seal, continue to apply a thin layer of wax every 3 months to maintain protection. For unsealed surfaces, a natural stone or concrete sealer can be applied to protect against moisture and stains.

To Clean:

For everyday cleaning, simply rinse or wipe down with clean water. Avoid using detergents, as these may contain chemicals that could affect the surface colouring.

Important Tips:

Do not use scouring pads or bleach-based cleaners, as they can cause dull spots and surface damage.

Clean spills immediately, especially those from oil or petroleum-based, acidic, or caustic substances such as: Vinegar, Citrus juices, soft drinks, Chlorine, Nail polish remover, Other strong household chemical. Prompt action helps prevent staining or etching of the surface.

To Clean:

Spot clean as needed. Begin by spraying water on the surface to soften dirt or marks. Use either: Water and a soft brush, or a mild soap and water solution with a clean cloth. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue.

Important Care Tips:

Wipe spills immediately to prevent staining.

Do not use bleach, ammonia-based, or abrasive cleaning products, as these can damage the surface.

Avoid placing hot or wet items directly on the surface, as they may leave permanent marks.

Do not place items such as Terracotta pots, Adhesives, or Oils directly on the table, as they may cause staining or surface damage.

To Clean:

For regular maintenance, simply wipe with a damp cloth. Seasonally, you may clean with a high-pressure hose, and/or use a diluted bleach solution for deeper cleaning if required. (Ensure thorough rinsing afterward)

Maintenance Tips:

We recommend sealing your Roman Stone table with a natural stone sealant to help prevent mould and mildew buildup.

For minor surface marks, gently use very fine steel wool in a circular motion with light pressure to buff them out.

To Clean:

Spot clean by first spraying water on the surface to soften dirt or marks. Use a mild soap and water solution with a clean cloth to gently clean. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue. Wipe spills immediately to prevent staining.

Important Care Tips:

Do not use bleach, ammoniated, or abrasive cleaning products.

To prevent surface damage, discoloration, or voiding the warranty, only use pH-neutral, nonabrasive cleaners specifically approved for ceramic or engineered stone surfaces.

To Clean:

Wash furniture with mild soap and warm water. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh cleaners, as these may damage the surface.

Additional Care:

Our All-Weather Wicker is UV stabilised, which strengthens the material and helps prevent brittleness caused by exposure to the elements. Note: UV stabilisation does not prevent fading over time.

For added protection and longevity, we recommend using Guardsman Fabric Weather Defence care products, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

If your furniture is placed near the sea, be mindful of potential sea salt corrosion on the metal frames. Regular rinsing and maintenance are advised in these environments. Always store cushions indoors when not in use, and clean according to the care label instructions.

UV Protection & Maintenance:

Our Polypropylene and Polyresin furniture is UV stabilised, which helps protect against degradation caused by sun exposure. Note: UV stabilisation does not prevent fading. To help preserve the colour and appearance of your furniture, it is recommended to cover or store items undercover when not in use.

To Clean:

Spot clean using a mild detergent and water solution. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue. Allow the furniture to air dry completely.

Important Care Guidelines:

Do not use bleach, harsh cleaning products, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the rope fibres.

Avoid high-pressure cleaning, which may fray or weaken the rope.

The rope has been UV stabilised to help reduce degradation from sun exposure. Note: UV stabilisation does not prevent fading.

For best results, cover or store furniture undercover when not in use to prolong fabric life. We recommend using Guardsman Fabric Weather Defence care products for Textilene Rope, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
